Largest Buddha in Google Street View

Google Street View

This 25 metres long reclining Buddha on the roof of Wat Si Sunthon (Wat=Temple in Thai) in Thalang, Phuket, Thailand is the largest open air Buddha in Phuket.

Although it is small as compared to the other statues of Buddha but it is the largest Buddha which can be seen in Google Street View.

I will be happy if some one can come up with a Street View of a larger Buddha.

White Elephant of Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois

Google Street View

This white elephant in Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois, a commune in the southern suburbs of Paris, France, was brought to the town in 1950 by one M.Masse, proprietor of Cafe de Liers who wanted to install it in his garden. However due to its huge size it could not be placed in the garden and he gifted the elephant to the city. After its installation he changed the name of his cafe to Cafe-Tabac de L'Elephant.

Vandals frequently paint the elephant pink and the city authorities paint it back to white. So in a sense it is proving to be a white elephant for the town!

Buran Russian Orbital Vehicle In Moscow

Google Street View

Buran spacecraft was a Russian orbital vehicle for their space programme and was functionally somewhat similar to the US Space Shuttle. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union the Buran space programme fell in disarray and the only working aircraft was destroyed in an hanger accident.

The spacecraft pictured here in Gorki Park in Moscow, is not the actual Buran meant for flights, but it is the structural prototype (Buran OK-TVA) of the space vehicle for testing the loads and stresses, heating and vibration of the flight vehicle.

It was planned to convert it into cafeteria.

Huge Arch Gate Made From Twigs

Google Street View

Google have recently released the Street Views of Moscow and while roaming these streets one of the  first unusual objects which I saw was this huge arch gate made from twigs and sticks. It may not have the architectural beauty associated with arch gates or memorials but it is definitely eye-catching.

Located at the entrance to Joy or Delight Park (Парк Отрада) in the Otradnoye (Отрадное) township in North Moscow. Отрадное means "welcome" so in a way it could be the welcome gate to the Welcome town.
